OFF to Kenya!

I woke up the morning to my mentor Kim waking me up to ask, "Hey, do you want to go to Africa today?!!" and like a child all wide mouthed and big eyed I honestly didn't believe I was actually doing this and heading to Kenya! We all met up at the airport with 24 storage bins and in line we all stood while everyone asked us what and where we were going...it was an unexplainable awesome feeling to begin to describe to people what we were planning to do even though I had never done it before! My goal in preparing for Africa was to go with ZERO expectations and no plans....and that was exactly what I did every single day! We had matching shirts and the biggest, well rested smiles on our faces that we all knew would soon change! I savoured a BLT and french fries at the airport along with a coconut water -- things I knew I wouldn't have again for a long while! I also took an amazing HOT shower that morning and straightened my hair, scrubbed my body good and put on a pretty makeup face -- all also of which I knew I wouldn't be seeing for a long while! I feel like a very big girl traveling with some amazing people such as ER nurse, hospice nurse, physician assistants some from Pakistan, London, Saipan and Canada along with two twin high school boys who had been on multiple trips like this in the past with their mom! I took my malaria medicine, jet lag pills, ear plugs, stool softener, blanket, pillow and my shoes were off while I enjoyed the luxury of free delicious food during international travel and watched movies along with a sleeping pill in which I slept the whole way to Amsterdam and then again onto Nairobi all while having the amazing vivid colorful 'malaria pill' side effect dreams!
